What does this Care Assistant job involve?

 

  •  To assist in the daily care of the residents, helping with dressing/undressing, washing, bathing and personal hygiene where necessary.
  •  To help residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities (e.g. incontinence), helping with the use of disability aids and caring for the same, where appropriate.
  • Help organise social activities, and participate in them to help promote residents' esteem and physical and mental well-being. Where required, to accompany residents on community visits and as duty rotas permit.
  • To help with the setting up of the dining room and meal trays in readiness for meal times.
  • To help serve food, assisting residents with eating and drinking as required. If required, prepare light meals and snacks and liaise with kitchen staff as necessary.
  •  To help clear up the dining room after meals, ensuring all dirty cutlery, crockery and utensils are returned to the kitchen.
  •  To help make and change beds, and assist with light domestic duties such as tidying rooms, dusting, polishing, cleaning windows (internal surfaces) and emptying commodes as may be required.
  •  Collect residents' dirty clothing take to the laundry, and return laundered and ironed clothes to the residents. To assist residents with the completion and subsequent checking-off of their Laundry Lists as required. To inspect, mend or darn clothing where practical.
  • Monitor residents' conditions, and report any changes to the Senior Care Assistant / Person in Charge as necessary.
  •  Help maintain a safe and healthy environment in line with Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Regulations and report all accidents to the Senior Care Assistant or Person in Charge.
  •  To read and write reports, and to participate in staff and residents' meetings as appropriate.
  •  To participate in training activities as directed by senior staff.
  •  To assist with End-of-Life Care for residents who are terminally ill.
  •  To undertake other duties, as necessary.
